Vasuki Becomes the Rope




               To  churn  the  ocean,  they  needed  a  rope.  The  giant

               snake Vasuki, king of serpents, agreed to help.



               The demons held one end, and the gods held the other.



               Everyone  pulled  with  all  their  strength.  The  ocean

               bubbled  and  swirled.  The  mountain  spun  round  and

               round. The churning had begun!







               Vishnu as the Giant Turtle




               Suddenly, the mountain started sinking into the ocean


               floor. The gods panicked.


               Vishnu quickly took the form of a huge turtle, called


               Kurma. He slipped underneath the mountain and held

               it  up  on  his  back.  Now  the  churning  could  continue

               safely.

               As the ocean churned, many magical things rose from

               the water:
