INSIDE THIS BOOK

This book is for the first term (April July). It contains tasks, concepts and skills for children
                                                    -
to do and learn. A lot more happens in the classroom like playing and learning with multiple

materials, using pictures and games on the interactive board, conversations, peer learning.

In this book, we have used various meaningful contexts and developmentally appropriate

activities for the young learners. Both are integrated to form seamless experiences in order
to develop children’s listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

The content and approach of this book are as follows:

In Nursery, children learnt lower case letters and their sounds. They also learnt that what
                                                  -
they speak and listen can also be read and written. They started reading simple words.

In LKG, children read simple texts(stories and songs) with the help of pictures, letter-sound

relationship and sight vocabulary. They segment (break down) words and then blend
                 (combine) the letters to read.

Children are given ample opportunities to describe pictures, connect with their personal
experiences, respond to questions and draw to express their thoughts. They write words

using the letter sound relationship and sight vocabulary. At this stage, they will read and
                                -
write simple words, which shows that they have made the letter-sound relationship and are

                 using it for communication.

Each text they read consists of three steps of activities: pre reading activities to across
                                                                               -
their curiosity about the story/rhyme to be read and to create readiness for the story; while

reading activities to keep them engaged in what is being read; and post-reading activities
to reflect on and to give a closure to the story/rhyme read. The three steps help them in

understanding the text. Additionally, children are given tasks in the book to consolidate and

                 extend their learning.

The Curriculum Book is designed to fill the language learning with wonder, joy and excitement
                 for learning.
